SECTION 16: CARE GUIDE
16.1 LAMINATE WORKTOPS CARE GUIDE
Laminate worktops provide a hard wearing surface however there are some general guidelines on caring for your worktop in order to ensure longevity, Day to day cleaning requires only a damp cloth and a mild detergent Some strong chemicals such as dyes may harm your surface so take care to avoid or ensure the area is protected. In the event of a spillage, take care to wipe up, rinse and dry the area immediately. DO NOT LEAVE LIQUIDS LYING ON THE SURFACE. This is important particularly near any surface joints as prolonged soakage of liquids may create a cavity in the joint. Also, do not position kettles, toasters or any heated appliances over the joint in the worktop surface.
We recommend using a chopping board on the surface at all times as sharp utensils or heated pots will damage the surface.
16.2 GRANITE WORKTOPS CARE GUIDE
Granite/Quartz is a much loved counter top style which is both durable and beautiful, however they do require minimal care to ensure they stay in great condition for longer. Simple daily maintenance should be performed for the best care of the worktop.
(i) Clean the counter top with warm water and a few drops of dish washing detergent or anti-bacterial detergent using a soft cloth.
(ii) Rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.
(iii) If you spill something on your counter top, blot with a paper towel or soft cloth immediately. Do not wipe area as this can spread the spill.
(iv) Flush the spill with warm water and detergent and rinse thoroughly.
(v) Dry the area with a soft cloth (properly sealed stone will repel most stains if the spills are cleaned promptly).
(vi) Hot cooking pots will not damage the surface, however extreme or constant temperature changes may harm your stone. Avoid leaving hot pans sitting on the counter for long periods of time.
(vii) While granite/quartz is highly scratch resistant, do not cut on it directly, use a cutting board.
16.3 TIMBER & VENEERED DOORS
It must be remembered that solid timber is a natural living product, therefore it is not possible nor desirable to achieve uniformity of grain or finish within the raw product. Timber will also change colour over time due to exposure to light, it is advised that this is taken into account when replacing or fitting new doors some time after the original installation. It is recommended when cleaning timber doors care is taken to clean following the grain direction of the door using only a damp cloth.
16.4 PAINTED DOORS
Painted finishes will change colour over time with exposure to light, The rate of change may differ slightly between pieces and therefore is outside of the control and warranty of Grand Designs Kitchens & Bedrooms Ltd. As with timber doors, painted product is made from natural products which by their nature are subject to movement depending on the environmental conditions in which they are placed. This natural movement may cause shrinkage or hairline cracks in the paint or along the joints of the Goods. This is considered as part of the features of painted goods and therefore exempt from this warranty.
16.5 CLEANING ADVICE FOR ALL DOOR TYPES
(i) Do not use wax furniture polish, abrasive or aggressive cleaners, bleach or other chlorine based cleaners, multipurpose cleaners, dilutes, acetone, alcohol solvent or similar products on the Goods as this will damage the surface. Additionally wax and polishes leave a residue build up that is difficult to remove.
(ii) Only use a 1% soap/99% water (liquid soap) solution, wiping with a damp (not wet) cloth, finally drying with a soft clean cloth only.
(iii) Ensure all cooking splashes are wiped immediately with a damp cloth.
(iv) Dust the Goods with a soft cloth only.
(v) Never use any abrasive cloths or cleaners on the Goods, spills and condensation on the Goods should be cleaned and dried immediately.
(vi) Our Goods should not be stored or installed in a newly plastered room or damp environment. If you need to store then for a while they should be kept flat, preferable in the room in which they are to be installed. This is of particular importance for tall/wardrobe doors.
(vii) Components placed adjacent or below a sink, or covering a dishwasher/washing machine or other water source are exempt from this warranty, unless the failure can be proven to be other than as a result of moisture penetration.
(viii) Those Goods that are wrapped in a man made material, as are all similar ones in the kitchen and bedroom industry and should not be exposed to heat in excess of 60 degrees. To avoid damage caused as a result of exposure to excessive heat please follow these simple guidelines.
1.1 When installing doors adjacent to ovens or other heat sources always ensure doors are shielded by the use of heat deflector strips
1.2 Never use an appliance that generates high levels of heat or concentrated steam (such as a toaster, kettle, pressure cooker or bread maker) directly under or adjacent to the Goods as this can
cause damage.
(ix) Components damaged as a result of not following the above guidelines are not covered by the warranty unless protected by suitable heat strips and a suitable gap left for heat escape.
(x) The correct care should help ensure that your Goods will look good for a long time.
(xi) All high gloss Goods should be allowed to "cure" for seven days after removing the protective film. During this curing process the Goods will be liable to scratching and other marks. Please treat the Goods very carefully during this period and avoid cleaning or wiping as much as possible.
(xii) To clean the surface of the Goods, wipe using a soft cloth with a mild nonabrasive, dish washing detergent diluted in water. the mix should be 1 part detergent to 99 parts water. You should never use any vinegar based detergents, solvents, abrasive detergents, white spirit or furniture polish.
